3-4 weeks ago the Mets were going through some tough times. New acquisition Jay Bruce got off too a really rough start to the point where Terry Collins was giving him days off just to clear his head, luckily in the last few games he seems to be making better contact & as long as he starts to make some contact, the power will eventually show itself.
The Mets beat the Marlins 5-2 on Wednesday night as Colon puts forth another solid start while going 7 innings & giving up 7 hits, 2 runs, 1 of which being earned while striking out 3. Even though the Mets won, unfortunately Colon wasn’t able to add on to his career total of 230 wins but that shouldn’t take anything away from the 43 year old’s strong performance.
Cespedes went 2-3 to raise his average back up to .298 while scoring a run. Flores drove in 2 on a 2 run HR in the 2nd inning. d’Arnaud went 2-3 while scoring a run a pushing his average up to .254 & Kelly Johnson drove in 3 RBI’s while going 2-4 on the evening.
The Mets are now 1.5 games back from the Wild Card holders Cardinal’s while moving 1 game ahead of the Pirates with tonights win against the Marlins, which separated them from the Mets by 2.5 game. The Cardinal’s have the day off on Thursday night while the Mets have deGROM on the mound vs Marlins RHP Jose Urena, who is 2-5 with a 5.83 ERA in 54 innings pitched with only 39 K’s. This is an opportune time for the Mets to gain some ground.
