According to Betsy Helfand, the first set of September call ups will include Michael Conforto, Ty Kelly, Gabriel Ynoa, & Kevin Plawecki.
It’ll be interesting to see how the Mets utilize Conforto being how Terry Collins seems content with De Aza starting in CF. There’s no question of the matter that De Aza is clearly the better CF’er so it’s possible the Mets start Conforto a few games in CF to get a few AB’s out of him before they swap him out on either a defensive replacement or for a pinch runner.
Having a 3rd catcher on hand is always a positive so now Terry can go to TdA to pinch hit without hesitating due to worrying about who will back up if any injuries were to take place. Ynoa is a good pitcher with the ability to paint the black so I’d imagine he’ll spot start for Matz & deGROM if need be. Ty Kelly has proven he’s a versatile player that is a viable option against LHP.
Expect guys like Matt Reynolds, Gavin Cecchini, & Brandon Nimmo to get the call up as soon as the AAA season is over as well as some bullpen relief.
