Mets win 3 straight as they K.O. the “Fightin Phils”

By Gem Tablak

After winning an important series vs the Cardinals, who hold down the 2nd Wild Card spot in the NL. The Mets have taken 2 straight from the Phillies while out scoring them 21-5 & are now 2.5 games back from that very spot.

Saturday night the Phillies had to face Noah Syndergaard, who went 7 innings while only giving up 2 hits & 2 BB’s with 7 in the K column, eventually improving his record to 12-7 & lowering his ERA to 2.55. Henderson & Smoker each followed to pitch a scoreless inning as the Mets cap off a 3 game win streak with 1 more to go tomorrow vs the Phillies.

However pertaining to tonight, the Mets completely beat the breaks off of the Phil’s winning 12-1. Reyes went 3-5 raising his average to .294 while scoring 2 runs from the lead off spot. Cabrera, again from the 2 hole hit a 2 run HR to give him 16 on the season while going 3-4 with 2 runs scored as well. Cespedes drove in 3 runs on his 3 run HR in the 4th inning to bring him to 26 HR’s & 67 RBI’s.

Tomorrow the Mets will take on Vince Velasquez in a 1:10 PM game while Gsellman gets his 1st MLB start after picking up his 1 MLB victory while coming in for an injured Jon Niese. The Mets offense has been on an absolute tear as if these games were in Philadelphia’s very tiny ball park & Velasquez has an ERA of 6.25 in his last 7 starts. It’ll be interesting to see if the Mets can keep the offense rolling & how they incorporate the struggling Jay Bruce into this line up. After all, there is only 1 clean up spot in a line up.
