Updated: Mets to acquire Jay Bruce

By Gem Tablak

Updated: Deal is back on & the Mets will give up potential future all star, Dilson Herrera as well as 2 other minor leaguers.

Updated: There may be Medical issues with Bruce that would call the deal off.

Jon Heyman of FanRag tweets that the deal is done & Joel Sherman of The New York Post confirms that the Mets will be sending over top prospect Brandon Nimmo as well as 2 “low level” minor leaguers. This year in his rookie reason, Nimmo is batting .236 with 1 HR & 5 RBI’s. Nimmo was Sandy Aldersons 1st draft pick as the Mets new GM in 2011, Sandy selected Nimmo with the 13th overall pick of the draft.

Bruce has had a pretty solid, yet quiet season with Reds treading in the NL central cellar. He’s been batting .265 with 25 HR’s & 80 RBI’s so far in 97 games played. While his OPB is only .319, I’m positive Alderson & the Mets are counting on his .559 slugging percentage. My guess is that the Mets will slot him in Right Field while they slot Granderson in Center for the time being. Bruce has 6 HR’s in his last 7 games.
