Update: With the signing of Ruggiano, a Rivera call up now seems less likely unless the Mets send down Nimmo or DFA De Aza.
AAA Utility player T.J. Rivera is expected to be called up after the Mets place Jose Reyes on the DL with an intercostal injury. I think this move not only addresses the Reyes injury but the Lagares one as well while the Mets could use his right handed bat off the bench in key situations in the game. Rivera was pulled from last night’s game & it will be more of a telling sign if he’s not in tonight’s line up as well.
In 86 games & 332 AB’s, Rivera has a slash line of .337/.376/.482 with 9 homeruns & 67 RBI’s. The Mets shouldn’t expect a lot of power out of Rivera but he’s proven he can hit at every level he’s been at. One of the best things about Rivera is his versatility, he can play all over the diamond including some outfield as well.
Now while this move hasn’t been made official, there have also been rumors that Dilson Herrera could be called up due to missing a few games out here in Las Vegas but Wally Backman went ahead & confirmed that Herrera slept funny on the bus ride which caused him to have a stiff neck & Backman felt it best that Herrera sit a few days since Herrera is the Mets future at 2nd base.
