The Mets have placed Juan Lagares on the DL & is supposed to get surgery on a partially torn thumb ligament according to a team announcement on Friday.
It’s unclear if Lagares will return this season, expected recovery time is 6 weeks & that’s not including any rehab. This may result in the Mets using Conforto in center field less often than as the team recalled Brandon Nimmo. If Nimmo can prove he can hit major league hitting, he may have the edge on Conforto because of his speed & defense.
The Mets can also use Cespedes in Center Field again, however that may be less likely to happen with the issues Cespedes has been having with his quadricep. But it’s always an option & I wouldn’t be totally shocked if the Mets reverted back to Cespedes in center. If that happens then LF is up for grabs as both Nimmo & Conforto can man down the position without any issues. One person I hope we won’t see playing is De Aza.
