deGROM is brilliant in another disappointing game

By Gem Tabalak

While deGROM got on the bump to pitch a masterpiece of a game, his teammates behind him were only able to give the Mets pitcher 1 run to work with. deGROM is no stranger to not getting any run support as he’s not the only one, but clearly the Mets can’t keep it going in this manner. deGROM went 7 innings while giving up 5 hits & 1 walking & also picking up 6 strikeouts putting his ERA at 2.56

The Mets picked up their sole run in the 2nd inning while their back up catcher Rene Rivera drove in James Loney on a double to right field. The team later loaded the bases in the 7th inning but to no prevail as the Mets left all the runners stranded. A problem Terry Collins & Mets fans have been dealing with all season.

In the top of the 9th inning after a Trevor Story single & stolen base, Familia walked Backmon before Descalso laid a bunt down which Rivera let sit on the foul line hoping it would go foul however it loaded the bases for the Rockies with no outs. Familia then struck out the first batter however a James Loney error let the tying run score. With Blackmon up, Familia threw a wild pitch that would bring in the go ahead run. After intentionally walking Blackmon to load the bases, Familia was pulled & ended up with back to back blown saves while Robles was brought in.

Robles then strikes out LeMahieu & makes Arenado pop out to get out of the inning. In the top of the 9th De Aza flied out deep in center for the 1st out, Conforto struck out on 3 pitches & Kelly Johnson grounded out to 1st to end the game. The Mets have lost back to back games & are now 2 games out of the 2nd wild card spot.
