On Sunday afternoon, Jacob deGROM will be tasked with preventing the Braves from sweeping them. Yes, the last place, bottom of the barrel, the tenants of the NL East Atlanta Braves. Now against the Braves this year, deGROM was able to pick up the victory despite givin up 8 hits over 5.2 innings, not typical deGROMinator as the Braves combined an average of .348 and an alarmingly high .696 Slugging Percentage.
The good news is that he ended up getting the win & those numbers are based on 1 start this year. In the 2015 season, deGROM held the Braves to a .176 batting average, a .208 OBP & a .275 Slugging Percentage in 51 AB’s against the Braves. 4 of the 9 hits deGROM gave up to the Braves last year belongs to their former short stop Andrelton Simmons who was traded to the Angels in the off season.
So even though the Mets lost the series, this is the perfect time to turn it around before the defending champions, Kansas City Royals come to town for a short, 2 game series & then the Mets head down to Atlanta for 4. If the Mets can pick up the next 5 of their 7, they can possibly head into D.C. & get themselves in real swinging distance at the top of the division.
