Week 5: Pitchers recap

By Corné Hogeveen and Gem Tablak

This is the recap for the Pitchers in week five! Again the grades are Very bad, Bad, Solid, Good, Very good and Red Hot!!

Matt Harvey:

Corné: Solid. Harvey was not great in his first outing of the week going 5.2 innings against the Braves allowing 3 runs. On Sunday Harvey started against the Padres and allowing just 2 runs in 6 innings while striking out 10. He looked very good on Sunday but he had a up and down week.

Gem:Good. Harvey still doesn’t look like the Dark Knight we are used to seeing every 5 games but he got the job done & it does seem he may about to be getting in a good groove… Hopefully.

Noah Syndergaard:

Corné: Good. 6 innings of 2 run ball. Unfortuanally he got no run support.

Gem:Good. No run support, no win.

Jacob deGrom:

Corné: Bad. Jake got hit in his start against the Padres allowing 3 runs in 5 innings.

Gem:Bad. Normally I would probably give him a solid rank but he gave up 10 hits in that outing while only striking out 2.

Bartolo Colon:

Corné: RED HOT. He pitched 8 scoreless innings on Monday and had another career day on Saturday. He pitched 6.2 innings on Saturday but had his first MLB homerun in the win!!! What a week for Big Bart.

Gem: Red Hot. I have no words for Bartolo.

Steven Matz:

Corné:RED HOT. 7.2 scoreless innings, no walks and only 2 hits allowed.

Gem:Red Hot. Please, just stay healthy Stevie boy.

Antonio Bastardo:

Corné: Very good. Bastardo pitched 3 total innings allowing just 1 runs but his big outing was Sunday when he came in with the Mets leading 4-3 in the 8th with the bases loaded 0 out and got out of it without allowing a run! Big time pitching by Bastardo.

Gem:Red Hot. Not so worried about the run. It happens. His outing on Sunday however was terrific.

Jerry Blevins:

Corné: Solid. Good his lefty out 2 of the 3 times.

Gem: Good. He got the job done for the most part.

Jeurys Familia:

Corné: RED HOT. 2 saves and 3 perfect innings!

Gem:Red Hot: Great week put in by the Mets closer

Jim Henderson:

Corné: RED HOT. Henderson with another 2.1 scoreless innings.

Gem: Red Hot. Turning out to be a great, low key pick up.

Addison Reed:

Corné: Solid. Did not allow a run but that was mostly because of Bastardo & his great work. 2.2 scoreless innings but a 1.88 WHIP

Gem: Good. Definitely got into trouble a couple of times this week however he didn’t give up any runs. That WHIP is something to be concerned about however.

Hansel Robles:

Corné: Very Good. pitched only 1.1 but did not allow a run.

Gem:Good. Not a lot of opportunities this week but that’s not bad. Keep that arm fresh, kid!

Logan Verrett:

Corné: Solid. Verrett allowed 2 homeruns but nothing more. In the 4 innings he had a 4.50 ERA.

Gem: Solid. Not exactly sure how I feel about his week, to be truthfully honest.
